A Deva is a celestial spirit bound to a humanoid form, typically appearing as tall Humans or Eladrin but hairless, with pale ethereal skin. They reincarnate upon death into a new adult body, cast to some inexplicable place in the world, with only a vague sense of their previous life.
Devas are extremely hard to find. It is said in legends that there were at most a couple dozen of them in the mortal world. Their primary affiliation is serving as the Maha Avatara, twenty-some Devas devoted to anti-Rakshasa tactics, with the objective of destroying the evil outsiders utterly. Otherwise, Devas may be wandering the world in search of some strange feeling of obligation or objective.
Some regions will hold the view of Devas as heroic figures, especially in the West close to the Rakshasa’s nation of Nri-kranasshad. Their names of individual Deva and their deeds vary greatly, but one consistent legend tells of a particular Deva, said to have been lost in the activation of an Astral weapon but will in fact reincarnate someday. This return is said will bring about the destruction of the Rakshasa’s dormant patron demigod, Ravana, and the fall of their civilization.
